Yamabiko Genshiro - Yamabiko Genshiro

Japanese: 山彦源四郎 - やまびこげんしろう

A shamisen player of the Kawato-bushi style. There were four generations, but the first is the most famous. (1) First (?-1756 (Horeki 6)): Real name Murakami Genshiro. Said to be a disciple of Edo Handayu the First. In 1717 (Kyoho 2), he participated in the founding of Kawato-bushi with the first Masumi Kawato, and played until the fourth generation Kawato, establishing the Kawato-bushi shamisen style. It is said that he took his surname after purchasing a shamisen with the Yamabiko mark made by Ishimura Omi the Third. (2) Second (?-1792 (Kansei 4)): Son of Magoshiro, a disciple of the first. Later he was adopted by the first, and took the name of the second around 1774 (An'ei 3).

河東節の三味線方。4世まであるが初世がもっとも有名。(1)初世(？‐1756(宝暦6))　本名村上源四郎。初世江戸半太夫の弟子と伝える。1717年(享保2)初世十寸見（ますみ）河東と河東節創立に参加，以後4世河東まで弾き，河東節三味線のスタイルを確立した。その姓は，3世石村近江作の山彦銘の三味線を入手してからという。(2)2世(？‐1792(寛政4))　初世の門弟孫四郎の子。のち初世の養子となり，1774年(安永3)ころ2世を襲名した。
