Swordplay performance

Japanese:
Swordplay performance
In the early Meiji period, sword fighting matches were held as a kind of spectacle, for which admission fees were charged. After the Meiji Restoration, in 1871 (Meiji 4), the feudal domains were abolished and prefectures were established, leading to the abolition of domain schools. In the same year, the sword removal order was enacted, which allowed samurai to remove their swords freely, and in 1873, the stipends were abolished. In 1876, the sword ban order was enacted, which prohibited samurai from carrying swords. In particular, samurai who specialized in teaching martial arts found themselves in poverty, and were forced to seek other unfamiliar occupations to make a living. This, combined with the modernization of society, which disregarded Japan's traditional traditions, led to a significant decline in martial arts.
