Tsukumowan - Tsukumowan

Japanese: 九十九湾 - つくもわん
Tsukumowan - Tsukumowan

This small bay is located in the Uchiura area of Noto Town, Housu County, in the northeastern part of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. The mouth of the bay is about 200 meters, and the depth is about 1.2 kilometers. The bay is a ria-type sunken coast, and it was named after the 99 inlets and bays that are frequent in and out of the coast. The water is 27 meters deep, transparent, and rich in seaweed. Horai Island floats in the bay, and warm-climate plants such as red pine, silverleaf ferns, and Japanese knotweed grow luxuriantly on the surrounding coastal terraces. When the weather is good, the Tateyama mountain range can be seen in the distance from the bay. It boasts a feminine scenic beauty that is representative of Uchiura in the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park, and also has a marine park. At the back of the bay is the Noto Marine Experimental Facility of the Kanazawa University Center for Sea Environment Studies. There are pleasure boats that tour the bay. The Noto Railway Noto Line (between Anamizu and Takojima) served the area, and there was Tsukumowan Ogi Station, but it was closed in April 2005 and is now replaced by a bus service.
