The story of Benkei

Japanese: 弁慶物語 - べんけいものがたり

A Muromachi period storybook. Author and date of creation unknown. 2 volumes. It tells the story of Benkei, a main character in the legend of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, from his birth to his entry into the priesthood, his killing of a thousand men, and his subsequent career as Yoshitsune's retainer. Tales of bravery including the story of the birth of a giant and the killing of a thousand men. It is based on the same material as the story of Benkei in volume 3 of the "Gikeiki." Other similar works include "Benkei on the Bridge" and "Benkei on the Slope."

室町時代の物語草子。作者，成立年未詳。2巻。源義経伝説の主要人物である弁慶の出生から出家，千人切りを経て義経の家来となるまでを記す。巨人出生説話や千人切りなどを含む武勇談。『義経記』巻三の弁慶伝と同材。なお類似の作に『橋弁慶』『じぞり弁慶』がある。
