Xing Tong (English spelling)

Japanese: 邢侗 - けいとう（英語表記）Xíng Tóng

1551‐1612
A Chinese literati in the late Ming Dynasty. His pen name was Ziyin. He was born in Linyi, Shandong Province. In 1574 (Wanli 2), at the age of 22, he became a Jinshi (official scholar), and was promoted to the position of Xing Taibo (minor minister) and Jianshi (chief official) of Shaanxi. However, at the age of 30, he retired and built a guesthouse at Liqiu in Sishui, where he invited guests, squandering his great wealth and falling into ruin. He is best known for his calligraphy, which was inspired by the two kings. Together with Dong Qichang, he was called "North Xing and South Dong," and together with Zhang Ruitu and Mi Wanzhong, he was called "Xing Zhang and Mi Dong." There are no known extant paintings.

中国，明末の文人。字は子愿（しげん）。山東省臨邑の出身。1574年(万暦2)22歳で進士となり，官は陝西行太僕少卿兼僉事（せんじ）に至ったが，30余歳で退隠，泲水（しすい）の黎丘に来禽館を築いて賓客を招き，巨富を散じて没落した。最も二王を宗とした書で名高く，董其昌とともに〈北邢南董〉，張瑞図（ちようずいと），米万鍾（べいばんしよう）を加えて〈邢張米董〉と称された。画については現存するものを聞かない。
