Functional School

Functional school is a school of thought that seeks to clarify the functions of cultural elements in the overall structure of culture and the functional relationships between cultural elements. It is a branch of the Durkheim school, whose representatives include Turnbart, Malinowski, and Radcliffe-Brown. 〘名〙 (functional school の訳語) 文化人類学または民族学の一学派。文化の全体構造における文化要素の機能と、文化要素間の機能的連関を明らかにしようとする。デュルケームの系統をひき、ターンバルト、マリノフスキー、ラドクリフ=ブラウンなどがその代表者。
