Qiongzhou (English spelling)

Japanese: 瓊州 - けいしゅう（英語表記）Qióng zhōu

A town in the lower reaches of the Nandu River in northeastern Hainan Province, China. Zhuya County was established here in the early Han dynasty, and Qiongshan County was established by separating part of Shecheng County in the Tang dynasty. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was the administrative center of Qiongzhou Prefecture. The surrounding farming villages are thriving with rice, sugarcane, sisal, pineapples, lychees, and citrus fruits, and the town serves as a distribution center for these agricultural products, which are shipped out of the island through the provincial capital of Haikou. A temple was built in the northeastern suburbs where Su Shi of the Song dynasty lived after he was exiled to Hainan by Wang Anshi. It was also the birthplace of Qiu Jun (1420-95), a Ming dynasty scholar known as the author of the Great Learning Yanyifu.

中国，海南省北東部，南渡江の下流部にある町。漢代初期に珠崖郡がおかれ，唐代には舎城県の一部を分離して瓊山県がおかれた。明･清代には瓊州府の治所であった。周囲の農村では米，サトウキビ，サイザルアサ，パイナップル，レイシ，かんきつ類の生産が盛んで，これらの農産物の集散地として，省都の海口を通じて島外に積み出す。北東の郊外には宋の蘇軾（そしよく）が王安石のために流されて住んだあとに廟が建てられている。明代の学者で《大学衍義補》の著者で知られる丘濬（きゆうしゆん）(1420‐95)の生地でもある。
