Arab Socialist Union

...The leadership was formed by a core of Free Officers members, joined by a small number of influential military officers and technocrats, and policy-making power was concentrated exclusively in this body. The composition of the Supreme Executive Committee of the Arab Socialist Union (ASU) from 1962 to 1964 was 18 members, of which 9 were from the Free Officers' Union, 3 were from other military officers, and 6 were civilians (5 of whom had doctorates). The subordinate organizations of the ASU were responsible for disseminating the decisions of the leadership from the central level to the local masses.
