...In particular, in Mesoamerica and the Andes, which have traditions of highly developed indigenous civilizations such as the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas, a selection of European civilizations was made, non-Christian decorative designs were added to church decorations, and some original works were created to suit the human and physical environment. In Mexico, open-air churches and posas (small places of worship) were established in vast atrios (church sites surrounded by stone or mud-brick walls) to convert the indigenous people, and stone churches were later built. The Mudejar style introduced from Spain was popular, and the Plateresco style also appeared as a typical example of 16th-century architecture. ...
