A city in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh, central India. A distribution center for wheat and cotton, it is home to industries such as cotton and food processing. It developed as the capital of the Gwalior princely state, and has a medieval fort. There are numerous palaces and temples within the fort walls, and huge Jain carvings remain on the rock walls.
