Chromone - Kuromon (English spelling) chromone

Japanese: クロモン - くろもん（英語表記）chromone

A type of oxygen heterocyclic compound. It is also called benzo-4-pyrone because it is a ketone with a condensed structure of a benzene ring and a pyran ring. It is an isomer of the fragrance coumarin. It is a colorless crystal that dissolves in organic solvents such as ethanol (ethyl alcohol), ether, and benzene. It is weakly basic and reacts with hydrochloric acid to form a salt. This is because when it becomes a cation, the pyrone ring becomes aromatic and stabilizes it. Flavones and isoflavones, which are known as plant pigments, are both phenyl-substituted derivatives of chromone ( Figure ).

Japanese:

酸素複素環式化合物の一種。ベンゼン環とピラン環が縮合した構造のケトンであるので、ベンゾ-4-ピロンともいう。香料であるクマリンの異性体である。無色の結晶で、エタノール（エチルアルコール）、エーテル、ベンゼンなどの有機溶媒に溶ける。弱い塩基性をもっていて塩酸と反応して塩を生成する。これは陽イオンになるとピロン環が芳香族性をもち安定化するからである。植物色素として知られているフラボンやイソフラボンは、いずれもクロモンのフェニル置換誘導体である（図）。
