Mount Kurohime

Japanese: 黒姫山 - くろひめやま

A double volcano located in Shinano Town, at the northern tip of Nagano Prefecture. Its elevation is 2,053m. It has a typical cone-shaped shape, hence it is also called Shinano Fuji, and there are crater lakes such as Kagami-ike Pond in the southeastern volcanic plain. The mountainside is covered with beech and larch trees. The vast foothills to the east are called the Kurohime Plateau, and although some areas have been cultivated, there are many resort facilities such as villas, dormitories, and hotels, and since it is an area with heavy snowfall, there are also many ski resorts. It belongs to Myoko-san to the north, and Mt. Togakushi and Mt. Iizuna to the south, and is part of the Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park. The trailhead is Kurohime Station on the JR Shinetsu Main Line.

長野県北端，信濃町にある二重式火山。標高 2053m。信濃富士とも呼ばれるように典型的なコニーデ型をなし，南東の火山原には鏡池などの火口湖がある。山腹はブナやカラマツなどにおおわれる。東方の広大な裾野は黒姫高原と呼ばれ，耕地化されたところもあるが，別荘，寮，ホテルなど休養施設が多く，豪雪地であるためスキー場も多い。北の妙高山，南の戸隠山，飯縄山などとともに妙高戸隠連山国立公園に属する。登山口は JR信越本線の黒姫駅。
