Peg beetles

Japanese: クロツヤムシ - くろつやむし（英語表記）peg beetles

A general term for insects belonging to the family Passalidae in the order Coleoptera, or a species of the family. All Passalidae are shiny black, as their name suggests. Their English names are sugar beetle and bessbug. They are closely related to the family Lucanidae, but their antennae are not elbow-shaped, and the pectinate tips curl inward. They mainly live in tropical forests, and about 500 species are known. The black passale beetle, Aceraius grandis , is found in India, the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, and Taiwan, and is about 45 mm long.
