Scribe, E. (English spelling) ScribeE

It was established in 19th century France, and its main writers include Eugène Scribe, V. Sardou, A. Dumas the Younger, and Émile Augier. This phenomenon marked the second turning point of 19th-century theater. Contemporary plays of manners developed into the realist dramatism of H. Beck and the naturalistic theater of É. Offenbach, the flower of Paris during the Second Empire. "Modern drama" was established by being a mirror that reflected the "modern life" that Baudelaire preached. ...

From [Meyerbeer]

…His grand operas, which combined German, Italian, and French opera styles, were widely welcomed by the general audience at the time due to their splendid stage effects. The librettos by Eugène Scribe (1791-1861) were also popular with the masses. In 1842, he was appointed general music director at the Prussian court and was active in Berlin. …
