The clothing worn by Jesus Christ and his followers is thought to have been the same as that worn by ordinary people, but they inherited the clothing of the time as a heritage and added symbolic decorations appropriate to each service to make them their vestments. The most important vestments for the Mass consist of a cape (amictus), a long white robe (album), a sacred cord (cingulum), a maniple (maniple), a neckband (stole), and a chasuble (chasuble).
