Clothoid - Kurosoid (English spelling)

A type of plane curve. It is also called the Cornu spiral. It can be expressed as follows, using a parameter s:

In this case, s is the length of the curve measured from the origin, and if the radius of curvature at that point is ρ, then the relationship is ρs = 2a.

For a car traveling at a constant speed on this curve, the rate of change in direction is constant, so the driver only needs to turn the steering wheel at a constant angular velocity. For this reason, this curve is often used as a curve on a highway.

平面曲線の一つ。コルニュCornuの螺線(らせん)ともよばれる。これは、媒介変数sを使って、

で表される。このとき、sは原点から測った曲線の長さであり、その点における曲率半径をρとすれば、ρs＝2aという関係がある。

　この曲線上を定速で走る車については、進行方向の変化率が一定となるので、運転者はハンドルを一定の角速度で回せばよい。このため、この曲線は高速道路のカーブの所の曲線として、しばしば用いられる。
