A land that is believed to have existed to the south when the Shimanto Belt (district) sedimentary area in the southern half of the Outer Zone of Southwest Japan was formed (proposed by the Kishu Shimanto Belt Research Group in 1970). According to sedimentological analysis, the Cretaceous and Paleogene flysch-type clastic deposits of the Shimanto Belt were mainly supplied by lateral or axial currents from the inner zone to the north, but paleocurrent systems indicating lateral currents from the south have also been recognized in various places, and based on the composition of the gravel in the pebble layer and radiometric dating, it is believed that the Kuroshio Paleocontinent contained older orthoquartzite in addition to Cretaceous acidogenic igneous rocks.
