…On the other hand, Max Dessoir (1867-1947) emphasized that beauty and art do not overlap in scope, and advocated the establishment of a general science of art alongside aesthetics. He made it his task to examine the assumptions, methods, and objectives of each of these sciences, and to summarize and compare their important results, while each art has its own systematic science of art. In response to this, Ewil Utitz (1883-1956), who regarded K. Fiedler as his founder and determined his position after Dessoir, devoted himself to the construction of a general science of art, but he also quickly became more inclined toward philosophy, believing that the fundamental task was to recognize the essence of art. A science of art can progress to a certain extent without elucidating fundamental issues related to art, but when it is asked for an ultimate foothold and relies on general science of art, it is required to be philosophical in itself as a science of the principles of art, and becomes a philosophy of art. …

…他方デソアールMax Dessoir(1867‐1947)は美と芸術とは双方の範囲が合致せぬことを重視し，美学と並ぶ〈一般芸術学allgemeine Kunstwissenschaft〉を主張，個々の芸術にはそれぞれ体系的特殊芸術学が成立するが，これら諸学の前提，方法，目的を吟味して重要な成果を総括し比較することを一般芸術学の課題とした。これをうけてウーティッツEwil Utitz(1883‐1956)は，始祖をK.フィードラーと仰いでデソアールにつぐ自分の位置を見定め，一般芸術学の建設に尽くしたが，根本的課題は芸術の本質の認識にあるとして，はやくも哲学への傾斜を強めた。特殊芸術学は芸術に関する原理的問題を解明せずともある程度進むが，究極の足場を問われて一般芸術学に頼るとき，これは芸術に関する原理の学としてみずから哲学であることを要請され，芸術哲学となるからである。…
