A bomb with a mechanism that explodes a certain time after activation. In addition to those dropped from aircraft, some are transported by vehicles or personnel, and are used for military purposes as well as guerrilla, terrorist, sabotage, and criminal purposes. A clock-activated fuse is often used for the detonation device, but the delayed fuses of dropped bombs use chemical methods, such as the time it takes for resin to dissolve in acetone, to avoid the effects of impact, and the burning time of gunpowder may be used for very short delays. Time bombs are intended to make the timing of the explosion irregular, making recovery and unexploded ordnance removal difficult, causing anxiety and confusion, and to allow time for evacuation or to make it unclear who set the bomb.
