〘 noun 〙① A signboard that is set up like a partition in front of a store. [Essays, Morisada Manko (1837-53)]② Something that is placed as a signboard. By extension, a metaphor for something that is only placed as decoration and has no use. ※Ukiyo- zoshi , Saikaku Oridome (1694), 6 "It was not enough to just have a beautiful appearance, so it was piled up in several places and later it was used as a display signboard for the face powder shop on Shijo -dori ."
