A Hindu pilgrimage site in the eastern part of Haryana, northwest India. It is said that the Aryans who invaded around 1500 BCE settled here and perfected Hindu culture. It is also famous as the site of the battle between the Kauravas and the Pandavas in the Mahabharata. To the north flows the Saraswati River, sacred to Hindus, and there are many pilgrimage sites in the surrounding area. Many pilgrims come to bathe in the large tanks during solar eclipses. インド北西部,ハリヤーナー州東部のヒンドゥー教巡礼地。前1500年ころに侵入したアーリヤ人はここに定着しヒンドゥー文化を完成させたといわれ,また《マハーバーラタ》におけるカウラバKaurava族とパーンダバPāndava族の戦いの地として名高い。北にはヒンドゥー教徒の聖なる川サラスバティー川が流れ,周辺には多くの巡礼場がある。とくに日食時に大タンクで沐浴する巡礼者が多く来集する。サンスクリット大学がある。
