Chestnut moth - Cydia kurokoi

Japanese: クリミガ(栗実蛾) - クリミガ（英語表記）Cydia kurokoi

A species of the Lepidoptera, Tortricidae family. It is so named because its larvae feed on chestnuts. The adults emerge towards the end of summer and lay one egg in each chestnut. The larvae feed on the chestnuts and grow, and when they reach maturity in late autumn, they leave the chestnut and make a cocoon in the soil in which they spend the winter. They pupate the following spring and become adults in summer. They open about 2cm. They are thought to parasitize not only chestnuts but also oaks (acorns). They are distributed in Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. Adults often fly to lights. [Inoue Hiroshi]

鱗翅目ハマキガ科の1種。幼虫がクリの実を食べるのでこの名がある。夏の終りころに羽化した成虫は，クリの実に1卵ずつ産みつける。幼虫は実を食して成長し，晩秋に成熟すると実から脱出し，土中に繭をつくってその中で越冬する。翌春蛹化（ようか）して夏に成虫となる。開張2cm内外。クリのほかカシ類の実(どんぐり)にも寄生するものと推定される。本州，四国，九州に分布する。成虫はよく灯火に飛来する。【井上寛】
