〘Noun〙① New music. ※Taiheiki (late 14th century) 13 "His soul still remains at the bottom of the Pu River and plays this piece. The Emperor has now copied it into new music and is enjoying it." [Book of Rites - Music Record] ② A term for classifying the style of Japanese gagaku music. While one drum is beaten in ancient music, a kakko drum is beaten in new music. ※Ryūmeishō (1133) 1 "Ten beats, new music. The old score states that five drums should be played. Perhaps there was a dance in it."
