Krivoi Rog

A city located in the eastern part of Dnepropetrovsk Oblast in south-central Ukraine, facing the Ingletz River, a tributary of the Dnieper River. Population: 724,000 (1991). Developed as a Cossack garrison in the 18th century. Iron ore has been mined in the city since 1881, and it developed into one of Ukraine's major industrial centers. Before the Russian Revolution, there were frequent labor strikes, in 1899, 1905, and 1910-1914. Large-scale iron ore mining is carried out in 24 locations in an area stretching more than 100 km north to south, centered on Krivoy Rog, and the region's estimated iron ore reserves are 16 billion tons (1979).

ウクライナ中南部，ドニエプロペトロフスク州東部に位置し，ドニエプル川の支流イングレツ川に面した都市。人口72万4000(1991)。18世紀にコサックの駐屯地として発展した。1881年以来鉄鉱石の採掘が行われ，ウクライナの一大工業中心地として発展した。ロシア革命前は労働者のストライキが1899年，1905年，10‐14年としばしば起こった。クリボイ･ログを中心とした南北100km以上にわたる地帯の24ヵ所で鉄鉱石が大規模に掘られており，この地域の鉄鉱石の推定埋蔵量は160億t(1979)におよぶ。
