Born: April 21, 1893. [Died] March 9, 1969. German geographer. He studied urban geography as a student of Gladmann at the University of Erlangen. His 1933 work Die zentralen Orte in Süddeutschland (Central Areas in Southern Germany) did not attract much attention at the time, but had a major impact on geography in the 1950s. In it, he proposed that the market areas of theoretical central cities have a regular hexagonal honeycomb structure. This idea was developed into central city theory, which seeks regularities in the location, size, and number of cities, and has been widely studied in the UK, Sweden, Finland, the US, and other countries, and applied regionally.
