A poet who appeared in the 14th century during the heyday of the Majapahit Empire in Java, Indonesia. His birth and death years are unknown. He is known as the author of epics such as "Arjunawijaya." His epics are valuable historical sources for learning about the syncretic religion of Shiva and Buddhism, but what has made him immortal is a line he wrote in one of his works: "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity)." This line has an almost magical effect as a guideline for a country as complex as Indonesia in both geography and humanities to survive as a unified republic. In February 1950, the Cabinet of the Republic of Indonesia made this the national motto, and it is also clearly stated on the country's coat of arms.

インドネシア，ジャワのマジャパイト王国最盛期の14世紀に現れた詩人。生没年不詳。《アルジュナウィジャヤ》などの叙事詩の作者として知られる。その叙事詩はシバ信仰と仏教との混合宗教について知るうえでの貴重な史料であるが，現在彼の名を不朽のものとしているのは，彼が作品の中に記した〈ビンネカ･トゥンガル･イカBhinneka Tunggal Ika(多様性の中の統一)〉という一句である。これはインドネシアのように地文，人文ともに複雑な国家が，単一共和国として存続するための指針として，ほとんど呪術的ともいえる効果をもち，1950年2月には共和国内閣により国のモットーに定められ，国の紋章にも明記されている。
