Kurikoma [town] - Kurikoma
A former town in Kurihara County in northern Miyagi Prefecture. Located in the Sansama River and Nisasako River basins, the area is mostly mountainous and hilly. Iwagasaki, the town in the center, developed as a castle town and market town, and is served by the Kurihara Rural Railway. Rice farming is the main industry, but in recent years livestock farming and vegetable cultivation have also become popular. Mount Kurikoma and the Kurikoma Five Hot Springs area are part of Kurikoma Quasi-National Park. In April 2005, it merged with Tsukidate Town, Wakayanagi Town, Takashimizu Town, Ichisako Town, Semine Town, Uguisuzawa Town, Kanari Town, Shibahime Town, and Hanayama Village in Kurihara County to become a city, Kurihara City. Area: 244.36 km2 . Population: 14,040 (2003).

宮城県北部,栗原郡の旧町。三迫(さんはさま)川,二迫川流域を占め,大部分が山地と丘陵地。中心の岩ヶ崎は城下町,市場町として発達,くりはら田園鉄道が通じる。米作が中心で,近年,畜産,野菜栽培も盛ん。栗駒山や栗駒五湯一帯は栗駒国定公園に属する。2005年4月栗原郡築館町,若柳町,高清水町,一迫町,瀬峰町,鶯沢町,金成町,志波姫町,花山村と合併し市制,栗原市となる。244.36km2。1万4040人(2003)。
