Otto Art - Otto Bijutsu

Japanese:
Otto Art - Otto Bijutsu
German art of the early Middle Ages flourished over a period of about 100 years from the mid-10th century to the mid-11th century. The period roughly overlaps with the House of Saxony (919-1024), which completed the political unification of Germany after the breakup of the Carolingian dynasty, but it is called this period because art developed significantly under the reign of the three Saxon emperors (Otton I to Otton III). This art was continued by the founder and two emperors of the following Salier dynasty. There are three sources of Ottonian art: (1) the preceding Carolingian art (especially manuscript paintings), (2) Late Antiquity and Early Christian art, and (3) contemporary Byzantine art (due to the marriage of Otto II to the Byzantine Empress Theophano in 972, etc.).
