Kurama Lion

A Kabuki dance drama. Kiyomoto. The original title was "Meotozake kawaranu nakanaka." Written by Nakamura Jusuke I. The original song was by Tomimoto, composed by Namisaki Tokuji. Choreography by Nishikawa Senzo. It was first performed in November 1777 (An'ei 6) at the Ichimuraza Theatre in Edo, with Segawa Kikunojo III playing Shizuka Gozen and Nakamura Nakazo I playing Oumayakisanada. In the first climax of the Kaomise Kyogen play "Chigotori Itobiiri Kitsune," Shizuka Gozen, who has gone insane after grieving the death of Yoshitsune, wanders the banks of the Mimosuso River in Ise with a naginata in her hand. Kisanta, disguised as a Daikagura dancer, starts playing with her, and together they head to Kurama. In the original work, the lower volume involved a story involving a female husband and fox who transformed into a sake seller and a rice cake seller, but only the upper volume has been passed down, and at the end of the Edo period, the play was revised to Kiyomoto, and Shizuka Gozen's role was changed to Kyo no Kimi, and has remained to this day. Highlights include a story on how to perform Kagura, performed by Kisanta, and the entanglement between the madwoman and the lion dance.

歌舞伎(かぶき)舞踊劇。清元(きよもと)。本名題(ほんなだい)『夫婦酒替奴中仲(めおとざけかわらぬなかなか)』。初世中村重助作。原曲は富本(とみもと)で名見崎徳治(なみさきとくじ)作曲。西川扇蔵振付け。1777年（安永6）11月、江戸・市村座で3世瀬川菊之丞(きくのじょう)の静御前、初世中村仲蔵の御厩喜三太(おうまやきさんだ)により初演された。顔見世狂言『児華表飛入阿紫(ちごとりいとびいりきつね)』の一番目大詰で、義経(よしつね)の死を悲しんで狂気した静御前が、薙刀(なぎなた)を手に伊勢(いせ)の御裳裾(みもすそ)川のほとりをさまようのを、太神楽(だいかぐら)に身をやつした喜三太が戯れかかり、ともに鞍馬へ向かう。原作には下の巻として酒売りと餅(もち)売りに姿を変えた女夫狐(めおとぎつね)がからむ話があったが、上の巻だけ伝わり、幕末には清元に改曲、また静御前は卿(きょう)の君の役に改められ現在に残った。喜三太演ずる神楽の仕方話(しかたばなし)、狂女と獅子舞のからみなどが眼目である。
