John Bagot Glubb was a British soldier who became a high-ranking official in the Jordanian government. He was an Arab-speaking soldier and writer. He served in Iraq and Jordan from 1920 onwards, and for nearly 20 years he lived without meeting any Europeans. In 1939 he became commander-in-chief of the Arab Legion in Transjordan, and led the corps in the occupation of the West Bank during the First Arab-Israeli War (1948-49). In 1956 he was dismissed by King Hussein, grandson of Abd Allah bin Hussein, who had appointed him.

ヨルダン政府の高官になったイギリス軍人John Bagot Glubbのこと。知アラブ派の軍人，著述家。1920年以来イラクとヨルダンに勤務，20年近くほとんどヨーロッパ人と会わずに暮らした。39年，トランス･ヨルダンの近衛兵〈アラブ軍団〉の総司令官となり，第1次中東戦争(1948‐49)のとき，同軍団を指揮して西岸地帯を占領したが，56年彼を親任したアブド･アッラーフ･ブン･フサインの孫である現国王フサインに解任された。
