Oil paper - Aburagami

Japanese:
Oil paper - Aburagami

A processed paper made by applying drying oils such as paulownia oil, perilla oil, or linseed oil to washi paper or astringent paper and then drying it. It is also called "yushi." It is water-resistant and strong, and was used as a waterproof packaging material for umbrellas, raincoats, oil-sliding screens, etc., but in recent years it has been replaced by water-resistant packaging materials such as paraffin paper and plastic, and is rarely seen. Thin Manila paper soaked in neutral mineral oil is also called oil paper, and is used for packaging, etc.
