A town in Kume County in central Okayama Prefecture. The Tsuyama Highway (National Route 53) and Tsuyama Line run through the Tanjoji River basin, and Shimo-Yuge, in the center of the town, developed as a post town. Tobacco, cured vegetables, persimmons, and grapes are cultivated thrivingly. Tanjoji is the birthplace of Honen. 78.65 km2 . 5,296 people (2010).
