This is a Koyasan Shingon sect temple located in Ikejiri-cho, Kishiwada City, Osaka Prefecture. Its name is Ryugasan Ryuchi-in. It was founded in 734 (Tenpyo 6) by Gyoki at the request of Emperor Shomu, with Tachibana no Moroe as chief patron. During the Kamakura period, it had vast temple grounds and flourished as a temple of learning, but gradually fell into decline. During the Nanboku-cho period, it was protected by the Southern Court, but was destroyed by fire during wars in the Eiroku (1558-70) and Tensho (1573-92) eras. Most of the current buildings were rebuilt and renovated during the Edo period. Fortunately, the ancient documents of the Jyuho treasures remain and are considered valuable materials in the historical academic world as the Kumeda documents. They are designated as important cultural properties of Japan along with the temple treasures Homandala, Nio-e Mandala, Ando Rensho statue, and Kusunoki family documents. The temple grounds include the mountain gate, Kondo (enshrining the Shaka Triad), bell tower, Kannon Hall, Shoden Hall, Kaisan Hall, Daishi Hall, and five sub-temples, and are designated as historic sites of the prefecture. In front of the gate is the vast Kumeda Pond, and behind the temple are the Kumeda Kofun Group.
