"Aizu Fudoki"

...120 volumes. A revised and expanded version of the Aizu Fudoki, which was selected by order of Masayuki Hoshina during the Kanbun era. It contains information on borders, mountains, rivers, temples, shrines, and the number of households, and also includes many ancient documents that have since been lost, making it a valuable work.

...In terms of the subject of compilation, there are official compilations by the shogunate or feudal domains and private compilations, but when the shogunate and feudal domain system was established, the first geographical records were compiled by the domains. In 1661 (Kanbun 1), Aizu domain lord Hoshina Masayuki, with his elder retainer Tomomatsu Ujioki as magistrate, compiled the Aizu Fudoki (New Edition Aizu Fudoki), which was completed during the Kanbun era (1661-73). The Mito domain's Kokin Ruiju Hitachi Kokushi, the Iwaki Taira domain's Iwaki Fudoki, and the Furuichi Go's Maebashi Fudoki were compiled during the Jokyo era (1684-88). These are geographical records written in Chinese, organized by category, and have a strong Confucian flavor, modeled on the Chinese Da Ming It Tong Zhi.

…編纂の主体からすれば幕府･藩の官撰と私撰とがあるが，幕藩制の確立期にはまず藩撰の領国地誌が成立した。1661年(寛文1)会津藩主保科正之は家老友松氏興を奉行として《会津風土記》(《新編会津風土記》)を編纂し，寛文年間(1661‐73)に完成した。水戸藩の《古今類聚常陸国誌》，磐城平（いわきたいら）藩の《磐城風土記》，貞享年間(1684‐88)には古市剛撰《前橋風土記》が成立，これらは漢文で部門別に編成，中国の《大明一統志》を模範とした儒学的色彩の濃い地誌である。…
