Japanese: 屑鉄 - くずてつ

Also known as scrap iron. Scrap includes scraps from obsolete steel products and scraps generated during processing. It is important as a raw material for steelmaking. Scrap is divided into self-generated scraps generated during the steel manufacturing process, processed scraps generated at steel-using factories, and city scraps collected from within the city. Japan used to import scrap from the United States and other countries, but the amount has been rapidly decreasing in recent years.

鉄屑とも。老廃化した鉄鋼製品の廃品や，加工過程で発生した屑など。製鋼原料として重要。鉄鋼業の製造過程で生ずる自家発生屑，鉄鋼使用工場で生ずる加工屑，市中から回収される市中屑に分けられ，日本では米国などから輸入してきたが，近年は急速に減少している。
