In a so-called binary star system, where two stars orbit each other due to the gravitational force exerted on them, the companion star (the fainter star) usually revolves around the main star (the brighter star) in an elliptical orbit. The point at which the companion star approaches the main star is called the periasteris. The point at which it moves farthest is called the apogee. The point at which a satellite orbiting a planet approaches the planet closest is also often called the periasteris (the point at which it moves farthest is also called the apogee). In either case, we often view these orbits at an angle, so the apparent periasteris is usually different from the true periasteris, where the two stars are closest to each other on their orbits.
