Athenian politician and soldier in the early 5th century BC. Date of birth and death unknown. Father of Pericles. Married the niece of reformer Cleisthenes, he was active in politics. In 489 BC, he impeached Miltiades, a hero of the Battle of Marathon, in an assembly and found him guilty, but in 484 BC he was ostracized. In 480 BC, he was given a general amnesty in response to the Persian army and returned to Greece. The following year he was chosen as a strategos (general) and led the Athenian navy in pursuit of the Persian army, winning the Battle of Mycale, and the following year capturing the Persian base of Sestos. 前5世紀初頭アテナイの政治家，軍人。生没年不詳。ペリクレスの父。改革者クレイステネスのめいを妻とし，政界で活躍。前489年マラトン合戦の功労者ミルティアデスを民会で弾劾して有罪にしたが，前484年には陶片追放に遭う。前480年ペルシア軍を迎えての大赦令により帰国。翌年ストラテゴス(将軍)に選ばれ，アテナイ海軍を指揮してペルシア軍を追い，ミュカレの戦で勝利，翌年ペルシアの根拠地セストスを攻略した。【藤縄謙三】
