Japanese: 草型 - くさがた（英語表記）plant type

The general shape of the above-ground parts of herbaceous plants, determined by characteristics such as stems and branch spread. 茎や枝張りなどの特性によって規定される草本性植物の地上部の概形をいう。樹木についていわれる樹形にも通ずる概念で，とくに農学分野で使われることが多い。草型は遺伝的に規定される面が強いため，種や品種の特性を表現する場合の，主要な形質の一つとして重要視されている。作物により草型の分類方式は多様であるが，以下二，三の例を示すと，まず，茎の性質に基づいて直立型，匍匐（ほふく）型あるいは矮性，つる性などという区別がなされている。
