〘名〙① 天然痘、できもの、はれものなど、皮膚病の総称。また、傷の治りぎわにできるかさぶたをもいう。※書紀(720)敏達一四年三月(前田本訓)「天皇と大連と卒(にはか)に瘡(カサ)(や)みたまふ」※米沢本沙石集(1283)二「むねに疵ありて、かさと成り」② 特に、梅毒をいう。※仮名草子・東海道名所記(1659‐61頃)四「傾城おほくあつまりて、市立(いちだち)の人に契る。〈略〉瘡(カサ)をうつりて、一期やまひになるもあり」
