1203‐68 Arab historian. Born in Damascus, he spent most of his life in his hometown, except for two pilgrimages to Mecca, a year's study in Egypt, and a short visit to Jerusalem. After serving as a notary in Damascus, he was appointed professor at the Ruqniyya School in 1262 and then at the Ashrafiyya School in 1264.
