R. Hilferding's major work, published in 1910. It describes the structural changes in capitalism (imperialism) from the late 19th century to the early 20th century that Marx could never have foreseen, and raises and analyzes the issues. He sees the characteristics of modern capitalism as the formation of cartels and trusts, and the closer ties between bank capital and industrial capital, and focuses his analysis on the financial capital that results from the latter. On the other hand, he misunderstood Marx's economic theory in his theory of money, and was not considered for a long time due to criticism from the Marx camp. However, a reprint was published after the war, and it has established its position as a classic of Marxist economics.

R.ヒルファーディングの主著で，1910年刊行。マルクスがまったく予見することのできなかった 19世紀後半から 20世紀初頭にかけての資本主義の構造変化 (帝国主義) を叙述し，問題を提起・分析した。現代資本主義の特徴をカルテルやトラストの形成，および銀行資本と産業資本の緊密化ととらえ，この後者から成立する金融資本を分析の対象とした。その反面，貨幣論においてマルクス経済理論についての誤解がみられ，またマルクス陣営からの批判によって永く顧みられることがなかった。しかし戦後，その復刻版が出版され，マルクス主義経済学の古典としての地位を確立している。
