Kimdong-ri

Japanese: 金東里 - きんとうり
Kimdong-ri

A South Korean (Republic of Korea) writer. Born in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Dropped out of Hanshin High School. From his debut works, "Portrait of the Shrine Maiden" (1936) and "Rock" (1936), he was a writer who excelled at depicting the fatefulness of human beings using the folk world as a subject, and after liberation he came into conflict with left-wing literature and became an advocate and practitioner of "pure literature" that was not subjugated to politics. Since then, as a central figure in the literary world, he has served as chairman of the Korean Writers Association in 1970, president of Sorabol Arts University in 1972, and president of the Korea Art Academy in 1981. His representative works include "Orange Chronicles" (1937), "The Station Horse" (1948), "The Cross of the Savant" (1955-56), "Life-Size Buddha" (1961), and "The Voice of the Magpie" (1973).
