Kenso - Kenso

Japanese: 憲宗 - けんそう
Kenso - Kenso

The 11th emperor of the Tang Dynasty in China (reigned 805-820). His name was Li Chun. He assassinated his sick father, Shunzong, and was supported by the eunuch Gu Bunzhen to ascend to the throne. After the An Lushan Rebellion, the power of the feudal domains grew, and he worked hard to improve the situation where the central government was not following orders. He strengthened the directly controlled imperial army, and increased military spending through tax reforms by Pei, among others. He pacified the feudal domains of Xichuan, Hedong, Huaixi, and other regions, and brought them under the control of the emperor, and was praised as a hero who restored the country to prosperity. His reign was known as the prosperous era of Yuanhe, due to the efforts of literati such as Han Yu and Bai Juyi. He was assassinated by the eunuch Chen Hongzhi and others in a dispute over the succession.
