A Korean Silla writer from the late 7th century to the early 8th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. He studied in the Tang Dynasty, and on returning to Korea in 704 became the governor of Hansan Province. He was an excellent writer, and wrote many works, mainly biographies, including the Hwarang Segi, which records the deeds of Hwarang, the Eminbien, Nakbon, and Hansangi, and fragments of his works are preserved in the Samguk Sagi (1145). In particular, the passages explaining the titles of Silla kings, such as Maripgan, in the Silla language are valuable in understanding the language and society of the time.
