A Korean Silla writer from the late 7th century to the early 8th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. He studied in the Tang Dynasty, and on returning to Korea in 704 became the governor of Hansan Province. He was an excellent writer, and wrote many works, mainly biographies, including the Hwarang Segi, which records the deeds of Hwarang, the Eminbien, Nakbon, and Hansangi, and fragments of his works are preserved in the Samguk Sagi (1145). In particular, the passages explaining the titles of Silla kings, such as Maripgan, in the Silla language are valuable in understanding the language and society of the time. 7世紀後半から8世紀前半ごろの朝鮮,新羅の文人。生没年不詳。唐に留学,帰国して704年漢山州都督となる。文章にすぐれ,花郎の事跡をしるした《花郎世記》をはじめ《高僧伝》《楽本》《漢山記》など,伝記を中心とする多数の著述をなし,その断章が《三国史記》(1145)のなかに伝わる。とくに麻立干などの新羅の王号を新羅語によって説明したくだりは,往時の言語・社会を知るうえで貴重。【大井 剛】
