Kinshiroku Collapse - Kinshiroku Collapse

Japanese: 近思録崩れ - きんしろくくずれ
Kinshiroku Collapse - Kinshiroku Collapse
An incident in the Satsuma Domain in the late Edo period. In 1787 (Tenmei 7), Nariyoshi inherited the title of the 27th head of the Shimazu clan, but the finances were heading for disaster due to the progressive and enlightened policies of the previous head of the clan, Shigehide. In 1807 (Bunka 4), Nariyoshi appointed the Kinsiroku faction (a faction that was an avid reader of Kinsiroku and valued practicality) and implemented a drastic austerity policy, destroying all of Shigehide's new policies. Infuriated, Shigehide ordered around 50 members of his party, including Kabayama and Chichibu, to commit seppuku, be banished to remote islands, or be taken to a temple the following year, and Nariyoshi retired and had his grandson, Narioki, take over the title.
