Ayllu (English spelling)

Japanese: アイユ（英語表記）ayllu

In Quechua, it expresses the concept of kinship. Depending on the context, it can be used in various ways, such as relatives, family, villagers, and residential areas within a village. In modern Quechua peoples from central Peru southward and in Ecuador, generally, one's paternal and maternal grandparents, one's siblings on both sides of the family and their children, one's siblings and their children, and one's children and grandchildren are all members of the same ayyu. Therefore, it does not include one's grandparents' siblings and their children. Thus, ayyu is a specific range of relatives that extends from an individual, and is similar to Japanese kinship, excluding in-laws.

ケチュア語で，親族の概念を表す。文脈により，親族，身内，村人，村内の居住区画など，いろいろな意味に用いられる。現代の中部ペルー以南のケチュア族やエクアドルでは，おおむね，自己の父方および母方の祖父母，父母双方の兄弟姉妹とその子ども，自己の兄弟姉妹とその子ども，自己の子どもと孫が同一アイユの成員である。したがって，祖父母の兄弟姉妹やその子どもたちは含まれない。そこで，アイユとは，個人を中心にしてひろがる特定範囲の親族ということになり，日本の親類から姻戚を除いたものに近い。
