A village in Nakakubiki County in southern Niigata Prefecture. Population 3,158 (1995). Comprised of the southwestern part of the Higashikubiki Hills and the lowlands at the southeastern end of the Takada Plain, the settlement has developed in the valley and alluvial fan of the Kushiike River, a tributary of the Seki River. In the early modern period, most of the village was a Shogunate territory, and in 1693 (Genroku 6), the Kamie irrigation channel was opened, and the alluvial fan land was converted into rice paddies. Rice cultivation is the village's only industry. There are landslide areas in the mountainous areas, but river repairs and landslide-related field improvement projects have been almost completed. There is a bus service from Takada Station on the Shinetsu Main Line, and many people commute to Joetsu City. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
