Land improvement machinery - Tochikairyokikai

Japanese: 土地改良機械 - とちかいりょうきかい

A general term for machinery used to improve the physical properties of cultivated land and increase productivity, including machines that perform tasks such as subsoil breaking, mixed-layer plowing, laying mole culverts, digging drainage ditches, removing gravel, uprooting, and leveling. Some of these machines are used when clearing and developing farmland. Subsoil breakers break up compacted subsoil to help crop roots grow. There are two types of machines: subsoil ploughs, which have a subsoil-breaking blade attached to the bottom of the plough, and machines equipped with a chisel-shaped blade and used exclusively for subsoil breaking.

耕地の物理性を改善して生産力を高めるための機械の総称で，心土破砕，混層耕，もぐら暗きょ敷設，排水溝掘削，石礫（せきれき）除去，抜根，均平などの作業を行う機械をいう。これらの機械の中には，耕地の開墾，造成のときに用いられるものもある。　心土破砕機は固結した心土を破砕して作物の根の伸長を助けるもので，プラウの下部に心土破砕用の刃をつけた心土耕プラウと呼ばれる型のものと，のみ形の刃をそなえた心土破砕専用の機械とがある。
