[1] [Noun] ① A deciduous tree of the Hamamelidaceae family. It is found in Asia Minor. It can reach a height of 10 meters. The leaves are long and palmately lobed into three to five lobes, with sawtooth edges on each lobe. It is monoecious. It produces small, unisexual, pale yellow-green flowers in a spherical shape. Its resin is called Sugo-koh (Sugo oil or Sugo oil) and is used as a medicine for skin diseases such as scabies . [Items and Names (1809)] ② The name of an incense. [1] 〘名〙① マンサク科の落葉高木。小アジア地方に産する。高さ一〇メートルに達する。葉は長柄をもち掌状に三～五裂し各裂片の縁に鋸歯(きょし)がある。雌雄同株。淡黄緑色の小さな単性花を球状につける。樹脂を蘇合香（蘇油・蘇合油）といい、疥癬(かいせん)など皮膚病の薬に用いる。〔物品識名（1809）〕② 香の名。①の樹皮からとった樹脂を香料としたもの。また、①の樹皮から製した膏油。皮膚病の薬として用いる。あるいは、諸種の香草を煎じた汁から製した香料ともいう。蘇油。蘇合。※法隆寺伽藍縁起并流記資財帳‐天平一九年（747）「蘓合香十二両」[2] ＝そこう（蘇合香）※太平記（１４Ｃ後）一七「義貞は横笛、義助は箏の笛、維頼は打物にて、蘇合香(ソガウカウ)の三帖、万寿楽の破、繁、絃急管の声、一唱三嘆の調べ融々洩々として」
