Adda River (English spelling)

Japanese: アッダ[川]（英語表記）Adda

A river in Lombardy, northern Italy. It is 313 km long. It originates near the Stelvio Pass in the Rhetian Alps and flows into Lake Como. It leaves the lake at the southeastern end of Lecco and flows southward. It widens and slows down as it enters the Po plain, and joins the Po between Piacenza and Cremona. It is an alpine river with a large seasonal variation in flow rate. There are many hydroelectric power plants upstream, and several canals have been dug downstream, which have been used for navigation and irrigation. As it was the political border between Venice and Milan, there are many ancient battlefields along the coast.

イタリア北部，ロンバルディア州の川。全長313km。レチア･アルプスのステルビオ峠付近に発し，コモ湖に注ぐ。湖の南東端レッコより再び出て南下し，ポー川平野に出てから川幅を広げて流れをゆるめ，ピアチェンツァとクレモナの間でポー川に合流する。アルプス型の河川で，流量の季節差が非常に大きい。上流には水力発電所が多く，また下流部からはいくつかの運河がひかれ，航行および灌漑に利用されてきた。ベネチアとミラノの政治的境界線であったため，沿岸には古戦場が多い。
